'Star Trek' Leaks Are 'A Bummer,' Zoe Saldana States

A week ago, we published about several photos in the group of "Star Wars 2" showing Benedict Cumberbatch and Zachary Quinto kept in some type of struggle. Cumberbatch might be a villain or otherwise Quinto is nearly certainly still Spock, unless of course the authors 're going really strange by using it. It had been difficult to tell what happening, really. But whomever leaked the photos hasnt greatly endeared themself to director J.J. Abrams, who apparently wasnt too happy based on Zoe Saldana. Whenever we swept up with Uhura in the Independent Spirit Honours, she revealed the atmosphere on set following the accidental reveal. "J.J. was very upset," she stated. "I must state that. It will not stop people from intruding, but they're, and it is this type of bummer since it only affects them by stealing away the surprise." Which makes a suitable quantity of sense -- why ruin an unexpected several weeks ahead of time when you are still likely to pay money for that ticket, and if you have an roughly .01% possibility of impacting on any particulars from the film via organized Internet protest or blowback? But we all do understand fan culture, and also the pressing have to be pleased with any iota of knowledge. Taking everything in stride, Saldana switched light whenever we requested her by what Cumberbatch gives the film. "Another tasty male actor in 'Star Trek' that is what he's adding, and I am taking pleasure in it," she stated. Exactly what do you think about the "Star Wars 2" photo leaks? Comic Doug Benson round the Ups, Downs and Delights of Live-Tweeting the Oscars

The Academy awards telecast stopped like a one-screen experience in the past. An Oscar viewing party is good, though your personal computer or phone nearby, a web-based theater full of people will raise the experience of the very first red-colored-colored-carpet arrivals for the music playing inside the Best Picture individuals who win speech. Yes, your pals are witty and could also fetch a beer, nevertheless the best jokes in regards to the individuals who win, nonwinners and all things in between are saved to Twitter. Some professionals make watching the Oscars simply worth the several hours (and several hours) spent. Doug Benson is a. A stand-up comedian and author including penning jokes for award shows Benson began recording an each week podcast referred to as Doug Loves Movies in 2006. Movieline spoken while using devoted movie fan in regards to the fleeting art of live-tweeting cinemas finest evening, who the most effective hosts are and when the Oscars ever really accomplish comedy. Are you currently presently live-tweeting the Oscars this year? The amount of occasions (Oscars, Golden Globes) excuses perhaps you have employed? I'm considering it. As extended after i will get Internet access wherever I'm watching the show. I live-tweet every show will have the ability to, as extended as everyone is seeing it live concurrently. The Grammys are saved to a tape delay round the West Coast, so it's difficult live-tweeting that whenever the brand new England first seen everything several hours before. What's been the entertainment price of the Oscar occasions of history few years? There's almost no entertainment value. Because of this I live-tweet throughout it. To entertain myself and folks who'll dsicover the whole factor boring. I like movies, which i really like the Oscars recognition filmmakers that great work, nevertheless the whole factor generally is a fucking slog. The Golden Globes were so boring this year, I lost fascination with live-tweeting it half way through. You think the Twitter/comedian commentariat builds up the mythology ofthe Oscars? Celebrate the Oscars more tolerable, certainly. Which is useful for the Oscars, I guess. When the jokes are missing around the program, people can turn to Twitter for a lot of laughs, instead of turning the showcase and finding something worthwhile associated with their evening. What can you think about the bond between comedy as well as the Oscars? Getting written for a lot of award shows, I realize that banter is tough to tug off, even by artists renowned for their comedy chops. Because the whole setup is actually artificial, as well as the audience inside the auditorium does indeed not give a shit about hearing jokes. They wish to effective or not successful and go to a party. Should most presenters stick with non-comedy intros? That might be a lot more deadly than trying to become funny. When the Oscars trot out an actress to see us how appear editing works, the home audience trots for the kitchen or perhaps the bathroom. The most popular intro I ever written for an individual, which was really approved and mentioned by Jennifer Jason Leigh round the Independent Spirit Honours: Without screenwriting, movies might be plays. Will there be whatever you want toward within the Oscars this year? Billy Very singing about Very Noisy and very Close. It's often strange in my opinion he sings a medley about nominated movies, even if its serious shit like Schindlers List and Saving Private Ryan. Where are you able to rank Billy Very among the past Oscar hosts? Certainly on the internet for with Johnny Carson and Bob Hope since the best. People males learn how to say something funny after something silly just happened, too as with a self-deprecating way. I loved when Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin situated together. I even loved the David Letterman year. A comedian is certainly the best choice. Follow Doug Benson's Academy awards live-tweeting at @DougBenson. [Photo: Robyn Von Swank]

Oscars 2012 Trailer Features Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel And Robin Williams

Thank goodness for Funny or Die. The comedy website teamed up with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this year to create the funniest trailer we've seen for the Oscars as far back as we can remember. While we aren't so sure Josh Duhamel and Megan Fox are actually the two people the Academy would turn to in a time of need, they certainly sell their roles here. It's their task to go find "The Host" -- aka Billy Crystal -- and convince him to host this year's Oscars. Along the way they get ordered around by William Fichtner, receive some clues from Vinnie Jones and get a ride in a barge from Robin Williams. Because why not. The joy of this trailer is that it's actually really funny and clever, and more epic in scale than previous Oscar commercials. If you remember, last year's Anne Hathaway and James Franco ads featured them working out and going through a training course to prepare for their hosting duties. We'd argue that this trailer appeals more to the Academy's much sought after younger demographic than the hiring of Hathaway and Franco did. Maybe the combination of a smart marketing campaign -- thank you again, Funny or Die -- and the return of Crystal as an Oscar host can help raise the viewership numbers that dropped last year. Did you find this new Oscar teaser funny? Are you looking forward to tuning into this year's award show telecast? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter!

'Expendables 2' Trailer: Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Guns

Your favorite action stars of yesteryear have arrived in a gun-toting, plotless teaser for 'The Expendables 2.' TV Ratings: 'Fear Factor' Stages a Welcome Return, CBS Still on Top

Bloomberg/Getty Images On Thursday, the House Judiciary Committee plans to mark up and vote on the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), an important piece of legislation that's been fostering fervent debate in recent weeks. In advance of the markup, Rep. Lamar Smith, chairman of the committee, has made some tweaks in a so-called manager's amendment, aimed at building support by attempting to clarify the bill's main targets as foreign "rogue" websites, narrowing definitions of bad actors, limiting the private right of action that allow copyright and trademark owners to sue, and addressing concerns that anti-piracy measures could eventually denigrate the security and integrity of the Internet. The changes are in direct reaction to criticism that has transcended political parties, and the modifications were welcomed by the entertainment industry lobby and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. But the new version of SOPA still has not gone nearly far enough in narrowing its definitions and curtailing its service provider obligations to appease leading technology companies and other groups rallying against the bill. One of the main criticisms against SOPA is that it's de facto "censorship," requiring ISPs at times to prevent access to infringing sites by making efforts under order to block web browser requests for flagged domain names. The prospect of domain name system (DNS) blocking and filtering has alarmed some who believe it would be intrusive and undercut the secure structure of the Internet. Among the many changes in Rep. Smith's managers amendment is a "savings clause," which not only explicitly clarifies that SOPA is not meant to be a prior restraint on free speech, but also would remove a duty to monitor activity on a network and restrictcourts from making any order that would "impair the security or integrity" of DNS. On the other hand, service providers will still face obligations to cut off access to pirate sites. Under the new version, it will be measures determined to be "least burdensome, technically feasible, and reasonable means designed to prevent access by its subscribers located within the United States to the foreign infringing site that is subject to the order." The italics illustrate new language in the modified bill, clearly designed to convince the tech community that a weight is being lifted from their shoulders. The provision also removes a five day deadline from implementing such action upon a court order, but since the language is deemed vague by many, and application has yet to be seen, many critics believe that is still adds up to anxiety and liability for leading U.S.-based tech companies. Public Knowledge, one of the groups leading the charge against the bill, doesn't believe there has been much progress in the new SOPA. "The amendment continues to encourage DNS blocking and filtering, which should be concerning for internet security experts and human rights activists alike," saidSherwin Siy, deputy legal director of Public Knowledge. Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt also echoed that sentiment. The bill would "criminalize linking and the fundamental structure of the Internet itself," he said yesterday. That reaction brought strong rebuke from the MPAA, which has been attempting to steer legislation through the home stretch. "Schmidt's comment that the legislation 'criminalizes the intermediaries' is a new weapon in their arsenal of hyperbole," said Michael O'Leary, senior executive vp for global policy at the MPAA. "There is broad recognition that all companies in the Internet ecosystem have a serious responsibility to target criminal activity. This type of rhetoric only serves as a distraction and I hope it is not a delaying tactic." Insiders believe that the bill will inevitably pass the House Judiciary Committee before gathering some resistance among the broader Congressional caucus. In recent weeks, opposition to the bill has unified groups as diverse as the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street, albeit it for different reasons. Some think it is government intrusion. Others see it as an inevitable impingement on free speech. Leading tech acolytes such as Twitter general counselAlex Macgillivray andWikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales are delivering a blow-by-blow account of the mounting concerns orproposing proteststo continue to raise awareness. Other critics see the inevitability of new anti-piracy legislation and have been rallying behind an alternative bill entitled the Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade Act (OPEN),sponsored by SOPA critics Sen. Ron Wyden and Republican Rep. Darrell Issa. That alternative bill would take a more modest copyright infringement approach by allowing rights-holders to file petitions against "rogue" foreign sites with the International Trade Commission, which would then be allowed to attack the financial backbone of these sites by drying up funds from credit card processing companies. Supporters of SOPAdoubt the remedy goes far enough to properly address piracy by enhancing obligations from service providers. The debate is likely to only get louder in the next week or so as Congress makes its moves before winter break. In advance, both sides are attempting to position themselves as being the sensible ones in the room by adopting the other side's language. The critics of SOPA say they want to address piracy -- but in a measured way. The supporters of SOPA love free speech -- but need to protect the vibrancy of art. At a speech this morning at the Center of American Progress, MPAA chairman Chris Dodd continued his call for Congress to act now. "I want to make it clear right at the outset that our fight against content theft is not a fight against technology," he said. "Attacking international content theft is not about restricting speech. Quite the opposite. Just as the Constitution defends an artist's right to create, copyright protections defend the artist's ability to do so."
